Summary
In Chapter 4, seasons passed without much change. Zorrie continued working her land. She got sick a few times. Storms ruined some of her trees.
Then one spring, Sheriff Hank Dunn started "paying Zorrie visits in the evening" (80). The first few times he visited, he came on some small mission or errand. Then he asked her out to dinner. They talked about the people they knew. The evening was pleasant. Everyone seemed to know and like Hank. Zorrie kept telling herself that everything "would be all right" and that it "was just dinner" (82). However, when Hank reached for her hand, Zorrie pulled away and said they should go.
