Act 1, Part 3 Summary
Scene 9. The trial begins, with the actor playing Edwards also playing the Judge and the Press as the prosecution. It's clear that Henry and the others are being railroaded. Every claim that George makes that his clients are being placed in a bad light by the legal system (by, for example, withholding the clean clothes); every objection that he makes to a ruling by the judge; every attempt he makes to consult his clients, is denied. Meanwhile the Prosecution proceeds, calling Della as its first witness.
Scene 10. Della tells the story of what happened the night of the Sleepy Lagoon murder. Henry leaves his seat with the defendants and joins her as the scene changes to show the earlier events.
