Mmiliaku

Mmiliaku's character represents grace. During one of her flashbacks, Zikora explains that Mmiliaku's name means water, a symbol of purity and clarifying power. Throughout the narrative, Mmiliaku's presence in Zikora's life grants her a constant sense of comfort and empathy. Mmiliaku is able to see Zikora in a way no one else can. She is a voice of reason, and remains gracious and kind to Zikora, even when her cousin's hardships seem insignificant in comparison to her own suffering.

Zikora's Son

Zikora's son symbolizes love. Throughout her pregnancy, and even immediately after giving birth, Zikora is worried she will be unable to raise the baby alone. Kwame's abandonment has left her broken and skeptical. However, after her son's circumcision, she realizes that she would die for him. This revelation illustrates the true nature of Zikora's heart, and her profound desire to show and be shown affection...
