Summary
Throughout the pregnancy, Zikora tried to be okay without Kwame. When she was 20 weeks, she texted him. He said she was being manipulative. When she asked to talk, he stopped responding. Though their story was so familiar, she still could not understand what had happened.
She talked to Mmiliaku about her hurt. She was afraid of raising the baby alone. Mmiliaku comforted her. Realizing how gracious her cousin was, Zikora "began to weep" (11). She had lost everyone focusing so much on Kwame.
In the aftermath of the breakup, Zikora obsessively searched her memories, "trying to find a reason" (11). Maybe Kwame was hurt she had decided to keep the baby before asking him.
