Chapters 21-23 Summary
In Chapter 21, Ann tells how for ten days she continued to work the farm while living in the cave. Mr. Loomis continued to use the dog to search for her. On the tenth day, Ann sees Mr. Loomis sneak to the road to watch her approach, so she goes a different direction to the farm. That day she butchers a chicken for her dinner and gave Mr. Loomis half. As he fries it, Ann goes to start the tractor, but cannot find the keys. When Ann goes to ask Mr. Loomis about the keys, he refuses to give them to her. Ann decides to go home and fish for the rest of the day.
In Chapter 22, Ann returns to the farm to milk the cow. When she is back in her cave, Ann hears the tractor. Ann watches as Mr. Loomis...
