Chapters 8-9 Summary
In Chapter 8, Ann rises early and collects greens to make a salad with. As she picks, Ann imagines what it would be like to marry Mr. Loomis. The idea makes Ann happy because she likes the idea of having children of her own. When Ann returns to the house, she finds Mr. Loomis checking the radiation levels of Burden Creek with his Geiger counter. Mr. Loomis is hopeful Ann was wrong about the reading, but it turns out she was correct. Mr. Loomis, however, thinks they could use the creek to make a generator to power the refrigerator and a few lights.
Later that day, Ann goes fishing. Mr. Loomis wants to go along, but the anemia makes it impossible for him to make the walk. Later Mr. Loomis appears fully recovered. They have a nice dinner and Ann gives Mr...
