Chapters 6-7 Summary
In Chapter 6, Ann learns the man's name is John Loomis and he was a chemist in Ithaca, New York. Ann tells the man about her family and he suggests they might have died from nerve gas. The man then tells her a little about his travels from New York, how he walked all the way searching for survivors, but found nothing until now. Ann then moves Mr. Loomis into the house where she can better help him.
Over lunch, Ann learns that Mr. Loomis worked for a man who invented a type of polymer that would repel radiation. The team had worked a long time and had just created a full suit made of this polymer and were waiting for the military to come see it when the war broke out.
