Summary

In Chapter 6, Zelda and Scott still have not set a wedding date. Though Zelda knows Scott wants to make more money before they marry, she begins to fear the wedding will never happen. To get Scott’s attention, Zelda writes a letter to another man saying she may not be getting married after all, and purposely mails it to Scott.

Scott replies to Zelda’s letter a week later and tells her things are over between them. Nonetheless, ten days later Scott shows up at Zelda’s house. Zelda suggests that writing should only be a hobby for Scott, but he insists he will work harder for her sake. Doubtful, Zelda decides to break things off with Scott for good. Not long after, Zelda receives a letter from Scott saying he has finally published his novel.
