Summary

The narration briefly digresses, and Yunior recalls an event from the previous summer. He threw a rock at Ysrael that hit him in the back. Ysrael had been running from Yunior and a group of other boys Ysrael managed to escape, and each time Ysrael came to that part of the countryside, the boys chased him and screamed that they wanted to see his face. The story then transitions back to the main narrative. Yunior and Rafa approach Ysrael in the field. Ysrael has a stout build and is about a foot taller than Rafa. His clothes appear to be imported from North America. He wears a mask that covers his face and head. There are two eyeholes in the mask, and scar tissue is visible below his left eye.
