Point of View
Yours Truly is told through a first-person perspective, alternating between Briana and Jacob’s points of view. This is useful for understanding the protagonists’ backstories and reasons for acting the way they do. It is especially helpful since communication is not a strong point in Briana and Jacob’s relationship.
Some of the story is epistolary, as Jacob and Briana communicate through letters in the early days of their relationship. The novel’s titular letter is written by Jacob to Briana at the end. He writes, “But someday, decades from now, when our grandchildren are grown and our hair is gray, and we’ve spent a lifetime being harmless to each other, you’re going to find this letter yellowed and wrinkled, forgotten in a shoebox...
