Summary
In Chapter 8, Jacob feels anxious about opening a letter from Briana. In it, she accepts his apologies and apologizes in turn for her awful behavior. She says she is not usually so mean and vows to invite him out for drinks whenever she and their colleagues go out. She promises to sit beside him and protect him from drunk extroverts. Jacob smiles, feeling relieved.
Briana reads a letter from Jacob in Chapter 9. She laughs when he addresses her as “Dearest Briana,” since she mentioned in her last letter that she would love to be called that as if she were in a Jane Austen novel (82).
