Perspective
The authors of the book are Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin. Joe Dominguez works on Wall Street for 10 years from ages 21 to 31 as a technical analyst and institutional investment advisor. During that time, he sees the shortcomings of a high-stress, over-worked, high-consumption life, and he figures out a way out. He develops a program to make himself financially independent using his own investment income, retiring to a life where he gets more fulfillment, yet spends less. After achieving financial independence, he still "works," he just does not get paid for it. As a volunteer, he comes into contact with other people and shares his story with them.
