Summary

Chapter 49 begins with Jack building up a fire in the burn pit and tossing in all the documents he has found regarding Rios, including the sworn statements, a photo of Rios’s vest, and a mugshot of Haitham. Chambers approaches and Jack tells him he’s sending him away from the platoon, causing Chambers to accuse Jack of stealing condolence funds. Jack accuses Chambers of using drop weapons, and the fight becomes physical. Chambers punches Jack in the face, and Jack pulls his pistol on him. They settle, and Jack asks Chambers why he did not fire on the crowd himself the previous night. Chambers replies that he does not know yet, and Jack realizes Chambers has a conscience, albeit a broken one.

The two make up, and Jack goes to the command post inside to find Captain Vrettos has left orders...
