Summary
Chapter 34 begins Book 3 of the novel and describes the month of Ramadan as an exceptionally rainy one. Rana continues to be a source for the Army, and Jack visits her during his waning time left in Iraq. Jack describes his visits to her hut as peaceful havens from the continuing war raging outside. We discover that Ibrahim has been sent to Camp Independence as a result of the fatwa on his head, and Jack promises Rana that he will exact revenge on the tribal leaders who purposefully hid their knowledge of the location of Rios’s remains.
Chapter 35 takes the form of a flashback to Granite Falls, California, when Will is asked to be a last-minute replacement groomsman for Marissa’s sister’s wedding. Jack has long suspected that Will and Julie, Marissa’s sister, have mutual crushes on each other, which Will...
