Summary

At the beginning of Chapter 6, Jack is riding in the back of a Stryker with his vehicle team, which includes Dominguez, Hog, Alphabet, and Snoop, among others. Jack has switched schedules for the night with first squad in order to pay a visit to a local Sahwa militia leader named Fat Mukhtar away from Chambers, who remains back at base. They arrive at his compound, located in a Sunni hamlet west of Ashuriyah known as The Villages, and Jack debates confiding in his team about his concerns with Chambers. He decides against it, reasoning that they are too junior.

Fat Mukhtar greets Jack and they go inside his compound, which is decorated in an American Midwest motif. Fat Mukhtar asks when his militia will be getting paid, and Jack offers to get the mukhtar to the front of the line on payday in...
