Ireland

The stories in this collection are set in Ireland. The author, Colin Barrett, grew up in Ireland, specifically in County Mayo. The stories occasionally make reference to taking place near the Atlantic Ocean, and since County Mayo is located on Ireland’s Atlantic coast, it is possible that these stories take place there. It is also possible that the town—or towns—in which the stories take place are based on the surroundings of Colin Barrett’s youth.

Small Town

Each of the stories takes place in a small Irish town. The narration never states a town name, and so it is possible that all of the stories take place in the same town. Even if they take place in different towns, the settings are very similar. The stories take place in towns with small populations.
