Summary

The narration gives information about Arm’s parents, with whom he still lives. The morning after Arm kills Fannigan, Arm briefly thinks with pity about Fannigan’s mother, who now has no immediate family members. Arm goes to the horse farm, where Ursula and Jack are. Arm talks to Ursula, as well as to Rebecca, the horse rider who Arm met in the bar the night before. At Ursula and Rebecca’s urging, Arm tries riding one of the horses. Rebecca holds the reins and leads the horse while walking beside it. Suddenly, the horse runs on its own, as if frightened by Arm. Rebecca manages to catch and calm the horse. Slightly later, Dympna phones Arm and says that they should meet with the uncles and encourage them not to pursue the Fannigan matter. Arm does not tell Dympna that...
