Summary

“Calm with Horses” opens with two men: Douglas “Arm” Armstrong (age 25) and Dympna Devers (age 24.) They live in a small town in Ireland, and Dympna has an unofficial monopoly on the illegal sale of cannabis in the town. Arm and Dympna arrive by car at the house of a Fannigan, a cannabis dealer who works for dealer. Fannigan recently tried to rape one of Dympna’s sisters. Fannigan is in his fifties and lives with his elderly mother. At Dympna’s direction, Arm goes into Fannigan’s home and beats Fannigan into unconsciousness. Arm and Dympna met at age 15 when attending the same boxing club. Arm was physically imposing and a good boxer. Dympna’s uncles helped Dympna enter the illegal cannabis business.
