Joe Goldberg

Joe Goldberg is the main character and narrator of the novel. He demonstrates many of the characteristics of a psychopath. He has a history of stalking women and killing them. He speaks of Candace whom he killed because she was breaking up with him. Because Beck would does not mold to Joe’s desires and act the way he wants her to act, Joe kills Beck. Soon after Beck is dead, Joe fixates on another girl, Amy Adam, whom the reader assumes will be his next victim.

Joe not only kills the girls who do not love him in return, he is willing to kill anyone who stands in the way of his relationships. In his relationship with Candace, Joe kills Candace’s brother. In order to have Beck to himself, Joe kills Benji, her ex-boyfriend and Peach. Peach is a friend of Beck who is demanding...
