Summary
In Chapter 3, Grace noted the changes that Rearden has made since it was founded to educate the girls and boys of the working class. The school had transformed into one in which the student body was predominately white. Grace had not really felt snubbed by the new class of very rich people who had begun sending their children to Rearden until she took Henry to a birthday party and was told by the hosting mother that the doorman would hail her a cab to take her home. Grace had hoped to be included in the group of mothers she saw in the kitchen, sharing snacks and drinks. She realized at that point that New York was no longer the city in which she had grown up.
