Charlotte “Lottie” Lockard
Charlotte is one of the two main narrators of the novel who lives in Pennsylvania. At the beginning of the novel, her father has a heart attack and gets into a car accident. Charlotte struggles with this, as she imagines him being dissected. Furthermore, she struggles to visit him in the hospital and only does so at the very end of the novel after she begins to accept the changes in her life. Charlotte frequently falls into what she calls rabbit holes where she spirals into a thought process over a certain fact or information. One example of this is at the beginning of the novel when she admits that she researched her father’s heart stint but ended up watching videos of heart surgery.
