Summary
In Chapter One, the protagonist, Mark, and his girlfriend, Alison, woke up to four inches of snow and went for a walk. They stopped at a coffee shop. When Alison went to the bathroom, Mark noticed a strange woman outside staring at him. He waved at her and she ran off, frightened. Mark remembered the dream he had when he woke up that morning. It was a nightmare about his six-year-old son, Brendan, who had died seven years ago, and Mark’s ex-wife Chloe, who had divorced him a year after their son’s death.
