Jamie Goldberg
Jamie is one of two main protagonists of the novel, and the novel is told partially from his first person perspective, and partially from Maya’s. Jamie is the older brother of Sophie, the son of Lauren, and the grandson of his grandmother. Jamie explains early on that his parents are divorced and his father lives in the Netherlands. The novel opens with Jamie’s perspective in Chapter One, and ends his perspective on Chapter Thirty-Five. Though the novel spends an equal number of pages on both characters, and from both characters’ perspectives, the bulk of the plot centers around events in Jamie’s life as they are big moments that Maya can also attend such as Sophie’s bat mitzvah, or the campaign.
