Summary
Chapter Eleven begins with Jamie’s perspective as he wakes up to texts from Maya. She is nervous about meeting with the legislative director. Jamie picks her up in Alfie, and brings her black coffee but Maya explains she cannot drink coffee in Ramadan. Jamie thinks again he is a disaster. They arrive at State Representative Holden’s district office, and before getting out Maya apologizes to Jamie for snapping at him. She confesses she is nervous about this meeting, and Jamie is too. They walk up to the office and the receptionist Kristin greets them warmly and Jamie and Maya both think “If Kristin were truly nice, how could she justify working for someone like Holden?” (143).
