Summary

Chapter Seven begins with Jamie’s perspective as he thinks, “I should have said something” (95). He keeps replaying the racist man at the door and how Maya looked so shocked. They drive to Target together and walk to the patio section. Jamie does not have good Wi-Fi anywhere at Target but it does not matter to him in the patio section especially. Maya asks him which chairs are best and decides to test them, and settles on the chair that she can sit next to Jamie easily and he feels his heart flutter. Jamie apologizes for not saying something to the racist man and Maya says it would have been a good idea. Maya says she deals with this all the time, and Jamie thinks, “This isn’t how history’s supposed to work. The timeline’s not supposed to move...
