Summary
Chapter Four changes to Maya’s perspective as she eyes the clock, thinking about breaking her fast while waiting for the Interfaith Alliance event to begin at her masjid. The masjid invited both candidates, but Newton (Rossum’s opponent) never replied. Maya notes the posters that say “JULY 9 - VOTE ROSSUM - HE’S AWESOME!” but thinks he is just “another white dude in Georgia running for office” (46-47). Sara texts her about Maya’s babysitting charges and they joke about loving Elmo (the texting is in a different font including emojis). Maya is not sure she can babysit though without a car.
