Athena's Notebooks

Athena's notebooks are symbolic of truth. June is guilty of stealing Athena's work and is therefore eager to protect the journals in the wake of Athena's death and the publication of The Last Report. She knows that the notebooks will prove she is a liar and a thief, and thus does everything in her power to ensure that Patricia does not release them to anyone.

The Last Front

The Last Front is a symbol of exploitation. Indeed, June steals the manuscript from her friend almost as soon as she dies. She then publishes it under her own name. Worse still, June has coopted the story of the Chinese characters and has whitewashed the era in history Athena was attempting to authentically preserve.
