Part 5 Summary
This lengthy scene takes place in Joseph and Joanne's living room. It's not immediately clear what time frame the action is in, the past or the present, but as Joanne comes in and asks why Joseph is sitting in the dark with a bottle of vodka, conversation reveals that it is the present. Joseph tells how he spent the day at his attorney's and vomited because he was so upset. As he pours Joanne some vodka, he tells her that neither he nor his attorney can understand how what happened, happened. Joseph makes Joanne drink her drink and pours her another as he talks about how his attorney believes he's innocent, or at least says he does.
