Summary
In Pages 264 - 324, Casey interviews at a private high school where Muriel has a connection. The school reminds her of her past. Manolo, the man interviewing her, is kind and friendly. She realizes their casual conversations were actually the first half of the interview. She regrets saying negative things about a book he liked. When she interviews with the principal, she is at ease. They talk familiarly. Casey discusses her desire to make students connect with literature. The principal seems to disagree with her pedagogy.
Afterwards, she feels depressed. Waiting in line for a sandwich, she runs into Silas. They spend the afternoon together. She confesses everything that has happened to her, excluding Oscar. He seems to understand her anxiety. She realizes it has always been Silas. When she suggests meeting again, Silas turns her down.
