Summary
Chapter 22, Lily, Day 156 – This chapter occurs in the past. Lillian has been keeping track of the days since she killed Kent: 44 at that point. She begins falling asleep with her head on Dave’s chest to soothe herself. By now, most of Lillian’s injuries from the attempted rape have healed. She goes in search of Dave, who warns her the undertow is strong. Lillian misses whenever Dave is not touching her. As they are about to kiss, Dave pulls back. As Lillian does laundry, she wonders if Jerry is dating again. As a storm comes on, she and Dave cuddle up in the shelter but Dave quickly excuses himself. Lillian wants to know why Dave hates her. He says he doesn’t hate her, but wants her and has been trying to fight it. They confess they are in love with each other...
