Class Differences
There are strict divisions between classes of people with the nobility at the top of this chain, the merchants and other wealthy people next, and the poorer laborers are the bottom with the fewest rights. The nobility typically answer to no one and consider themselves in a position to dictate all aspects of life, and they tend to look down on the other classes, even the wealthy and the clergy. Roland, who is an Earl, is an example of a nobleman who exerts his power without apology, while Gwenda is an example of a peasant who is at the mercy of the nobles.
