Point of View

The point of view is that of two young adults for the majority of the story. It is consistently in the first person. Rachel is the protagonist, though she narrates only slightly more than Henry. The reader shares his perspective and understands his motivations for much of the novel. However, one central point of the story is Rachel’s journey to deal with her grief. Rachel’s point of view is a little slower, sadder, and more serious at the beginning, as she is experiencing and wrapped up in her grief. However, as she heals, this distinction is blurred. The reader starts the story with Rachel and ends the story with her, as the first and final sections are both written form her perspective.
