Having a Sense of Family
The narrative emphasis the importance of family by showing how it influences Isaiah and his adoptive family. The sense of family encourages Isaiah to not give up on his family even when he has the opportunity to forget them and become a member of a new family. The possibility of reuniting with them drives him to do things that he never would have thought of doing before as does the desire to have a family until he reunites with his real family. The sense of family that Mikayla’s family has also pushes them to go beyond their boundaries to incorporate others into their definition of family.
