Summary

In Chapter 13, in the Hi-Hat, the bar’s sound system plays music. Grady dances with Hannah Green, at her request. Once again, he stifles feelings of attraction towards her. In Chapter 14, James falls asleep in the Hi-Hat. Grady puts James in Hannah’s car, and Hannah drives James to Grady’s house. As Grady prepares to leave the Hi-Hat, he is confronted by a short man whom Grady and Terry had jokingly dubbed ‘Vernon Hardapple.’ The man points to Grady’s car—a Ford Galaxie—and claims that it belongs to him. Grady tells the man that had received the car from an acquaintance named Happy Blackmore. (Grady had given Blackmore a large monetary loan, and Blackmore eventually gave Grayd the car as repayment.)
