Summary
In Chapter 7, Grady goes back inside the Gaskells’ house after smoking some cannabis. The party is almost at its end, as the attendees prepare to attend a guest speaker’s lecture at the college’s large lecture hall. James joins his friend Hannah Green, who is also an undergraduate writing student of Grady’s. Hannah is a talented writer, and she rents a room in Grady’s home. Grady consistently attempts to stifle feelings of attraction towards her. Hannah and James converse with Antonia and Terry. It becomes evident that James has a deep interest in old movies, as well as in the suicide deaths of old Hollywood actors. In Chapter 8, at Grady’s urging, Grady and James stealthily remain at the house after everyone else has left. Grady brings James upstairs to Walter Gaskell’s memorabilia collection.
