Summary
In pages 46 - 102, August hears "California Dreamin'" coming from a car while on the break. He watches the younger girls Autje and Neitje listen to the radio. Everyone returns to Earnest Thiessen's hayloft; the elderly man is senile and is unaware what they are doing. The only thing he remember is that Peters stole his clock.
Greta and Agata announce the importance of making a decision regarding staying or leaving. The Koop boys, with whom Autje and Neitje were talking, reported the men's plans to return to the colony for livestock; they plan to use the animals to secure the men's bail. They decide to make a list of pros and cons for each their options.
If they stay and fight, they decide while they will not have to pack or leave those they love, they will not be forgiven and risk worsening...
