The people from Calla Bryn Sturgis tell Roland and his ka-tet about their community and the other Callas around them. They also talk about the Wolves, explaining how in the Callas a twin birth is more common than a singleton birth and how the Wolves come once a generation to steal one child from every set of twins. The children are returned by train weeks later, but their brains are damaged, leaving many of them unable to feed themselves, speak, or dress themselves.
