Calla wakes in the Searcher's academy and she realizes that she has made decisions that will keep her from returning to her home in Vail. However, when the Searchers ask her to make an alliance with them, Calla is not sure she can commit to such a radical idea. Calla's first priority has always been to her pack and that is her priority now as well.

As Calla considers an alliance with the Searchers, she begins to realize that this would mean freedom not for herself, for her to choose Shay over Ren, but also for the members of her pack. Calla knows that certain members of her pack would want this freedom at any cost. Therefore, Calla commits to consider such an alliance.
