Summary
In Chapter 6, Betty leaves Annabelle alone for the next few days, as she and Andy spend time together. On a summer day, Annabelle discovers James and Henry sitting before Betty, who is sitting on a log and holding a young quail. Annabelle sends Henry and James to school, then fails to stop Betty from crushing the quail’s neck. Betty throws the dead bird at Annabelle who falls backwards. Toby suddenly appears, telling Betty never to touch Annabelle again or she will regret it. Betty is shocked and falls to the ground while Toby helps Annabelle up and runs off with the quail. Betty calls him a nut, but contracts poison ivy from her fall.
