Chapters 6-10 Summary

In Chapter 6, the next day Richard offers Kahlan a juicy red apple. She grabs him by the throat and almost kills him. At the last second, she stops, explaining that in The Midlands, all red fruit is poisonous. Richard has grown feverish. Kahlan says that he needs medical attention. In four hours, he will be unconscious without treatment. Richard is weak but leads Kahlan to his friend Zedd's house. Zedd is horrified to see Kahlan, and asks what Richard is doing with that creature. Zedd quickly recovers his composure and Kahlan cooks spice soup for all of them.

In Chapter 7, Richard passes out from fever. He remembers spending time with his father. Richard's father made him memorize the sacred Book of Counted Shadows before destroying it, to keep it away from Darken Rahl. He gave Richard the tooth of the beast...
