Summary
Kaniuru is appointed deputy chairman of Marching to Heaven. He quits his job as a professor and goes to visit Nyawira’s father in hopes of showing off his status and wealth. Waniuru refuses to go into business with Kaniuru until the money from the Global Bank has arrived. Kaniuru asks Nyawira’s parents about her whereabouts. Kaniuru tells them that if they give him her whereabouts or shares of the timber business, he can make sure no harm comes to their daughter. Rathi, Nyawira’s mother, rebukes Kaniuru , saying that she will never denounce her daughter and she would never sacrifice her daughter to save her property. While Waniuru dislikes Kaniuru’s contemptuous and arrogant tone, he tells Kaniuru that he will think about the offer he had made.
