Summary
When Nyawira returns home, Kamiti is not there. In fact, Kamiti has disappeared and, in his absence, Nyawira writes in her notebook. On the fifth day of Kamiti’s absence, Nyawira attempts to burn everything she wrote about him. Going through her papers, she finds a note from Kamiti telling her to see him in the prairie surrounding Eldares. The prairie has been affected and exploited by charcoal, paper, and timber merchants who have cut down many of its trees. Kamiti calls out to her and they reunite. They have sex on the ground of the cave. The next day, over breakfast, they debate the relationship between nature and humankind. Kamiti calls himself a lawyer for the plants and animals and says that he will take her on a tour to meet his animal and plant friends. Although neither Kamiti nor Nyawira mentions...
