Chapter 10, Summary

(Chapter 10, "Bird and Bear and Hare and Fish") Two weeks later, Maria, Susan's maid at the mayor's house, comes to get her because one of her dresses for Fair Day has been damaged. Susan must go to the mayor's house so a new one can be fitted. Susan is very angry and agitated when she returns from the mayor's house, and Cordelia asks what happened while she was there. Susan tells her aunt that, while trying the new dress on, Mayor Hart Thorin came in and fondled her, thrusting against her until he ejaculated. Susan is disgusted by this, especially since the mayor will probably continue to do this every chance he gets. Cordelia doesn't think it is a big deal and thinks Susan is making too much of it.
