Summary

In Chapter 1, Andromeda is traveling across the desert toward Thorne Manor. She is thankful for a ride on a cart for part of the way, but the man refused to take her very close. She is careful to conceal her protective amulet under her dress, knowing the value of the silver. She walks the final three miles, thinking about the castle that lies ahead. The “Evil Eye is the first Manifestation of sin – namely jealousy and greed” (3). Andromeda and her guardian Jember have worked for a lot of people who had “too many nice things” or a lot of money. Andromeda is greeted by a white woman who openly stares at the scar on Andromeda's face. She calls Andromeda and “exorcist” though the correct term is debtera.
