Charlie's School in Colby
Charlie starts a new school when she arrives in Colby. This is where she meets Howard and Audrey.
The setting of the school is a community that supports Charlie’s growth. Charlie’s teacher connects her with Howard to help her learn how to be forgiving and accept people and herself as they are. At the same time, Howard gains a true friend. Charlie’s teacher also helps her grow by tying the community of the school to Charlie’s community at home by informing Bertha of Charlie’s state of mind.
The school also symbolizes the fact that Charlie has found the family for which she had wished. Bertha and Gus make her go to school whereas her mother did not pay attention to whether she went to school or not.
