Summary

In Chapter 18, Howard and Charlie look for Wishbone until lunchtime. Charlie eats at the Odom’s. Mrs. Odom encourages her to be positive and Charlie wonders whether she knows what she said to Howard. Howard’s older brother drives them around after lunch to look for the dog. They put up the lost dog signs his other brothers made. Toward evening, Howard and Charlie go to check the trap. Charlie wants to apologize to Howard, but he does not know what to say. Howard realizes that she is sad. Jackie calls later that evening and tells her that she visited Scrappy who now has a tattoo of a blackbird in a cage on his hand. She also tells her about the tribulations in her life in Raleigh.
