Summary

In Chapter 7, Charlie returns home and sits with Gus and Bertha. She wants to tell Bertha that she is sorry, but she starts crying instead. Bertha calls her a blessing in spite of Charlie being not able to say all of the things she wanted to say. Then, Gus says they should have some cobbler before dinner. Charlie finds an opportunity to make her wish. They eat dinner and have more pie. Then, Bertha shows Charlie pictures of when she and Charlie’s mother were children. Bertha says that life’s complications caused them not to see each other anymore. She also tells her not to be mad at Jackie. Charlie says that she is not mad at Jackie, but later admits that she is. That night, she prays for the return of Wishbone.
