Summary
Chapter 12 begins as Diana speaks with her nurse. She protests that Isabela Island was real and cannot believe the date is only March 24th, saying, “It felt more real than any of this does” (192).
With no memories of her arrival at the hospital, Diana struggles with her condition. Devastated to find her time in the Galápagos was a dream, she grieves the loss of people “who never existed” (193). She is desperate for people to believe that her trip to Isabela was real.
Finn FaceTimes Diana from her window and explains everything. They had decided not to go to the Galápagos. Diana woke up in the middle of the night with a headache.
