Summary
Chapter 6 begins four weeks after Diana’s arrival on Isabela. She receives an email from work: she has been furloughed at Sotheby’s. Diana, worried about Beatriz, makes time to see her daily.
On Diana’s birthday, Beatriz and Gabriel take Diana to their farm. Diana makes a wish on the birthday cake that Beatriz made, realizing she does not desire to get back to Finn. She notes that “these things are what I should be wishing for…it is hard to make wishes when in the moment, it feels like you have everything you need” (141).
After they celebrate, Gabriel and Diana split a drink, talking about their lives: Diana’s job at Sotheby’s, Gabriel’s history on Isabela, and how he became a father at 17. This causes Diana to consider her relationship with Finn as she admits to herself “there are...
