Summary

Chapter 18 opens from Pyrite's perspective. She is confused about how she got here. Her last memory was of being in the mountains. She is thrilled at the thought of Queen Scarlet and happy to be SkyWing. She thinks the SkyWings are the best tribe. Qibli asks to see her necklace “and then she was gone” (178). Winter is horrified by the experience and has trouble understanding that Pyrite is not real. He has always known IceWings are the superior tribe though he knew other dragons feel similar loyalties to their tribes. Now he has a “memory of believing the same thing about SkyWings, and believing it with all his heart” (179). Hailstorm, having seen Winter morph into Pyrite, reaches for the necklace.
